What are EMDR Intensives?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a proven therapeutic approach that uses gentle techniques, such as guided eye movements or tapping, to help you process and release the emotional weight of past trauma.
The EMDR Intensive Program condenses this powerful therapy into focused, extended sessions, which are delivered over a period of 1 or 2 weeks. This allows us to dive deeper into your healing, making meaningful progress on one or two targeted issues.
The intensive format can help you address specific trauma-related challenges in an accelerated time frame.

What Improvements Might You Experience?
Everyone’s healing journey is different, and the improvements you see will, of course, depend on your individual situation.
Our goal is to help you make meaningful progress toward healing, providing a strong foundation for continued growth and recovery beyond the program.
Here are examples of what that can look like:
Better Emotional Regulation
Through EMDR, you may find it easier to manage your emotions, leading to fewer emotional outbursts or overwhelming moments.
Improved Coping Skills
The intensive format can help you develop healthier ways to respond to stress, anxiety, and other challenging emotions.
Improved Self-Confidence
Working through deep-rooted trauma often leads to a boost in self-esteem, empowering you in your day-to-day life.
Increased Sense of Control
EMDR Intensives may help you feel more in control of your reactions and responses, providing a greater sense of agency in your life.
Greater Resilience
Processing emotional blocks can strengthen your resilience, helping you recover more effectively from life’s difficulties.
Reduced Emotional Distress
Many clients notice a decrease in the intensity of emotions tied to specific memories or triggers, bringing a greater sense of calm and emotional relief.
Increased Clarity and Focus
As you process past experiences, many clients feel greater clarity about their feelings and thought patterns, helping you navigate life’s challenges with greater ease.
Enhanced Relationships
As you heal from trauma and regulate your emotions, many clients notice improvements in their relationships, both personally and professionally.
Decreased Trauma Symptoms
Clients often report a reduction in trauma-related symptoms such as intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, and hypervigilance, allowing for a more grounded and present sense of self.
Your results will, of course, depend on your individual circumstances.
So, how do we know if an EMDR Intensive is right for you?
The EMDR Intensive Program is ideal for individuals who want to focus on specific trauma-related issues and are ready for a more concentrated therapeutic experience. If you’re looking for rapid progress on one or two key areas of distress, an EMDR Intensive might be the right option for you.
EMDR Intensives work well for people who:
Feel stuck in weekly therapy and want to break through what’s holding them back.
Have a busy schedule and need a more efficient way to work through trauma.
Have done therapy before and are looking for focused trauma processing, rather than ongoing support.
That said, EMDR Intensives aren’t for everyone.
If you’re in significant distress, struggling with severe dissociation, or don’t yet have the tools to manage emotions between sessions, an intensive may not be the best place to start. If that’s the case, we’ll help you build those skills first so that when the time comes, you’re in the best position to get the most out of the process. Not sure what’s right for you? Let’s talk it through.

It’s completely normal to wonder about this. EMDR Intensives are designed to be structured and manageable, not overwhelming. We’ll go at a pace that feels right for you, and we’ll be keeping a close eye to make sure you stay within your window of tolerance—which means we won’t push too far, too fast. You’ll also have practical strategies to help regulate emotions between sessions. If we feel the intensity is becoming too much, we’ll adjust the approach to keep you feeling steady and supported.
As your brain continues to process between sessions, you may find yourself wanting additional support. This is where the Client Library can help you in your ongoing healing journey, by providing you with curated resources that are tailored to support you on your recovery, even outside of sessions.
We recommend clearing some space in your schedule on the days of your intensive. EMDR can bring up emotions and leave you feeling a little drained, so it’s a good idea to avoid anything too demanding straight after sessions. That doesn’t mean putting life on hold—just being mindful of what your mind and body might need to recover and process.
EMDR Intensives are designed to fast-track your progress, but everyone’s healing journey is different. Some people find they feel lighter and more settled, while others choose to book follow-up sessions to keep building on their progress. We’ll check in at the end of your intensive and decide together what’s going to be most helpful for you.
